Chapter Eight
Morgan was studying a new filly at the fence when Kemper joined her. âHey there, pretty little sister. Howâs it going?â
She smiled as their new arrival toddled off on wobbly legs, spooked when Kemper appeared at the fence. âQuestion is, how are you?â
âIâm great,â he replied, beaming.
âI imagine thatâs true,â she said. âI heard Holly screaming her blasted head off about an hour ago. She mustâve been under the impression that you really didnât mean to lock her downstairs.â
He shrugged. âIâll have a talk with her. Tell her to keep her voice down.â
âYou do that. Iâm sure sheâll listen,â Morgan said, thinking the defiant woman would really give her lungs a workout then. If Morgan had learned anything at all, it was how Holly responded to constructive criticism and their occasional requests.
Holly defied them at every turn, which was probably part of her appeal. Morgan believed her brothers had never faced bigger challenges than the ones Holly constructed on a daily basis.
Morgan stared at Kemper, her thoughts gathering quicker than she could convey them. âYou know, Kemper, Holly may not be what youâre looking for in a submissive woman. This isnât a lifestyle everyone easily adapts to and not everyone wants to accept the same practices.â
âWhy did you?â
She grabbed hold of the top plank and swung backward. âYou have to ask? I grew up watching you and Kit disappear in the basement with these beautiful, sexy women. I always imagined one day, some handsome man would sweep me off my feet, drag me down to that basement, and make mad and passionate love to me.â
âI donât think I want to hear this,â Kemper grumbled.
âMaybe not but perhaps you need to listen to Holly. Part of being the ultimate Dom is being able to hear what your sub tells you. Itâs not entirely about control, which is often the universal misconception.â
âI thought you didnât like Holly.â
âI donât have an opinion about her either way. Sheâs already judged me and thatâs okay. Iâm sure youâve confided in her and I donât fault you for that.â
Kemper frowned. âWe donât discuss you with Holly. We never have.â
âMaybe not, but sheâs been here long enough to see the good times and bad. When she first arrived here, I was clean but only remained that way for a few days, if youâll remember. A few weeks of sobriety and I had a setback. Iâm sure it was ugly. I donât remember much about it.â
âYouâve made one mistake since youâve been home. Thereâs no reason to think youâll have another relapse.â
âThereâs no reason for you to believe another relapse will never occur, Kemper. Thatâs one thing Iâve learned. Every day of my life, Iâll have the craving. Iâll want the drug. Fortunately, I want love and happiness in my life more. My fellas wonât put up with a drug user and they love me enough to hold me accountable.â
Kemper patted her arm. âI think if you and Holly gave one another a chance, youâd get along.â
âI donât know,â she said, shrugging.
